Richmond office

Accountants in Richmond and the Hawkesbury

Judge Accountants has an office on Windsor Street in Richmond for clients across the Hawkesbury, from Windsor and North Richmond out to Kurrajong, Bilpin and Londonderry. Hawkesbury clients tend to be farmers and acreage owners working out how the tax rules apply to them, tradies and small businesses starting out or growing, families who’ve had enough of an accountant who doesn’t call back, and people planning to hand a property or business to the next generation. We publish our fees, you deal with the same accountant every year, and we explain things until they make sense.

Where you might be right now

Running a farm, or not sure if it counts as one

A few acres at Wilberforce with a market garden, horses at Londonderry, an orchard at Bilpin. Whether it’s a business or a hobby decides whether the losses come off your wage income, and the ATO has rules for that. We look at what you’re actually doing and tell you plainly.

Farm and business tax →

Starting a trade or small business

A new ute, tools, your first employee, and a choice between trading as a sole trader or setting up a company. Our first meeting covers what it costs to set up, what the ATO will expect and when, and the setup is a fixed fee.

Starting a business →

After a flood or a bad season

The Hawkesbury floods have hit plenty of businesses and farms more than once. Whether a grant or insurance payout is taxable, how to rebuild without losing the deductions, and how to deal with the ATO when cash is short: we’ll work through each of them with you and set up an ATO payment plan if you need one.

Business tax and accounting →

Xero that nobody has reconciled

Or no software at all, just a bank statement and a shoebox. We set Xero up properly, reconcile it, and either teach you to keep it up or do the bookkeeping for you from $90 + GST a week.

Bookkeeping →

Unhappy with your current accountant

They don’t return calls, they don’t explain, you’re telling your story to a different person each year, the bill is a surprise, and there’s an ATO debt you weren’t told about. Switching is free and we handle the handover.

Switching accountants →

Handing the farm or business to the next generation

Plenty of Hawkesbury properties and businesses have been in a family for decades. Getting the structure, the capital gains tax concessions and the super side right takes years of planning, not a phone call the month before. We start that conversation early.

What’s different about Judge

You know the price first.

We’ve published our fees since 2014. Every package is on our pricing page, there’s no hourly meter, and there’s no surprise invoice for a phone call.

A real tax planning meeting, every year.

A sit-down before 30 June with your actual numbers modelled and a written plan. For primary producers that includes whether to make a farm management deposit and how a big or small season will land under income averaging.

We take the time to make it make sense.

Advice comes with the reasoning, in plain English, so you understand your own tax, your own financials and your own business. You’ll be taken seriously, whatever size your operation is.

The same accountant, every year.

You’re assigned to one of our chartered accountants and you keep them. You won’t explain how your seasons work to a new person each July.

No ATO surprises.

The first thing we do for a new client is pull your ATO accounts and tell you exactly where you stand, including any debt you didn’t know about, and set up a plan for it.

Lending and financial planning under the same roof.

Judge Lending and Clarity Wealth work alongside us, so the accountant who knows your numbers is involved when you’re buying acreage, refinancing or planning retirement.

Technology that saves you the drive.

Xero Platinum Partner, a client portal for documents and signatures, bank feeds, and automated reminders. If you’re up the mountain at Kurrajong Heights or Bilpin, most of the year can happen without a trip into town.

A Western Sydney family firm since 1982.

Llewellyn Judge started the practice in Penrith in 1982. His son Barclay took it over in 2014, after ten years at Nexia in Sydney where he ran the superannuation division. The Richmond office on Windsor Street means Hawkesbury clients can see us without driving to Penrith.

Who we work with

Market gardens, turf farms, orchards, poultry and horse properties; builders, electricians, plumbers and other trades; shops, cafés and service businesses around Richmond and Windsor; staff and families connected to the Western Sydney University Hawkesbury campus and RAAF Base Richmond; retirees and property investors. Clients come from Richmond, North Richmond, Hobartville, Windsor, South Windsor, Bligh Park, McGraths Hill, Pitt Town, Wilberforce, Freemans Reach, Agnes Banks, Londonderry, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Grose Vale, Bilpin, Mount Tomah, Vineyard and Riverstone, and the rest of the Hawkesbury region. Clients further afield work with us by phone, video and the client portal.

How it works

  1. Book a free consultation, up to an hour, in Richmond, in Penrith or by video. Bring last year’s return and your current software login if you have one.
  2. We quote a fixed fee and send an engagement letter the same week.
  3. We set up or tidy up your software and take over lodgements with the ATO.
  4. We meet before 30 June every year to plan the tax year ahead.

What clients say

“The team at Judge Accountants is simply exceptional. They've helped us start and run our business, buy our next family home, sort out our tax returns and everything in between. We trust Judge Accountants with every financial endeavour.”

James Moloney, Director, Anomolous Pty Ltd

“Love working with Judge Accountants. As a sole trader, it's important to find an accountant that can work with you as part of your team to help you grow. They've been very patient with me, teaching me how to use Xero, and they're proactive rather than old-school reactive.”

Anne Barratt, Empowering Health

“Judge Accountants has been providing my family and business with tax advice for 30 years. This family business has always provided honest quality advice.”

Ross Curran, Ross Electrics

“The team is honest, accurate and understanding. My personal situation was quite complex; however, I was extremely satisfied with their advice and ability to explain issues clearly and concisely. I left their office in a much better position than where I started.”

Daniel Allam, Penrith

Frequently asked questions

How much does an accountant in Richmond cost?

The same as in Penrith, and it’s all published. A sole-trader package is $80 + GST a month, a company or trust compliance package is $330 + GST a month, and an individual tax return starts at $285 + GST. Bookkeeping is from $90 + GST a week.

Do you work with farms and primary producers?

Yes. Market gardens, turf, orchards, poultry, horse properties and mixed farms. That means income averaging, farm management deposits, the immediate deductions for fencing, water facilities and fodder storage, and getting the business structure right before a property is passed down.

Is my acreage a farm business or a hobby?

The ATO looks at whether you intend to make a profit, the size and regularity of what you do, and whether you run it in a business-like way. If it is a business, losses can only be used against your wage or other income if you meet the non-commercial loss rules; otherwise they’re carried forward. We’ll go through your numbers and tell you where you sit.

Do I need to come into the office?

No. You can see us in Richmond or Penrith, or work with us entirely by phone, video and the client portal, which suits a lot of clients out past Kurrajong and Bilpin.

Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?

Yes. We handle the ATO agent nomination and the handover of your file, and we don’t charge for the switch.

Are you registered tax agents?

Yes. Judge Accountants is a registered tax agent (TPB registration 24767487) and a member firm of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Where do I park?

There’s parking at or near the office on Windsor Street. If you’re not sure where to go, ask when you book and we’ll point you to the closest spot.
