Loan repayment calculator
Work out the repayments on a home, investment, car or business loan, and how much interest you’ll pay over the term.
This calculator gives an estimate only, based on the figures you enter and the assumptions described on this page. It isn’t financial, credit or tax advice and doesn’t take your circumstances into account. Talk to us before making a decision.
How to use it
Enter the amount you’re borrowing, the interest rate and the term. Choose principal and interest to see the repayment that pays the loan off over the term, or interest only to see the repayment while the balance stays the same. Interest-only loans usually revert to principal and interest after a set period, at a higher repayment.

Frequently asked questions
How are loan repayments calculated?
For a principal and interest loan, each repayment covers that period’s interest plus part of the loan balance, calculated so the loan is fully repaid by the end of the term. For an interest-only loan, repayments cover just the interest, so the balance doesn’t reduce.
Do fortnightly repayments save interest?
Paying half your monthly repayment every fortnight means 26 payments a year, the equivalent of 13 monthly payments instead of 12. That extra payment reduces the balance faster and saves interest. This calculator shows the fortnightly equivalent of the monthly repayment so you can compare.
Does this include fees?
No. It calculates repayments from the loan amount, interest rate and term only. Lender fees, lenders mortgage insurance and changes in interest rates aren’t included.
